Executive Team

Vice President, Real Estate
James Howard

Since May 2002, Mr. Howard has used his excellent skills in both the financial and real estate arenas to  plan, structure, negotiate, and provide oversight for ADC’s numerous and innovative real estate development projects and transactions,  including the development of commercial space, rental housing, condominiums, educational facilities, and brownstone rehabilitation. Mr. Howard was a key strategist in the landmark transaction that preserved 231 units of affordable housing in Harlem through an unprecedented collaboration. As a member of ADC’s Executive Team, he is an active participant in organizational strategic, operational, and business planning and ensuring programmatic implementation of comprehensive aspects of the organization’s mission.
Prior to ADC, Mr. Howard was the Senior Associate of Acquisitions & Development for UrbanAmerica, L.P. and Director of Consulting Services for the Landauer Realty Group, Inc. Mr. Howard has over 15+ years of experience in real estate asset management, consulting, finance, and demonstrated expertise in structuring, negotiating, and executing complex real estate transactions.

Mr. Howard holds an MBA in Financial Management from Pace University and is a licensed Real Estate Appraiser and licensed Real Estate Broker in NY State.

 

Vice President, Resource Development
Mavis Vann

Ms. Vann joined ADC in November of 2010. She is responsible for all fundraising and development activities which include achievement of aggressive development goals and organizing special events to successfully raise funds. She is also responsible for the design and implementation of a comprehensive plan for developing key external alliances by cultivating individual and philanthropic support to expand and diversify the organization’s funder base. Mavis will also lead the effort to create and implement a comprehensive fundraising program that will secure unrestricted and restricted program funds needed to support ADC’s goals.

Mavis is a seasoned professional in the area of development with 20 years of experience in not-for-profit fundraising. She most recently worked for United Way of New York City as the Interim Senior Vice President of Resource Development where she was responsible for providing leadership and direction to the development and implementation of strategies to meet the organization’s annual goals of $46 million. Mavis has successfully completed annual, capital, major gift, direct mail, endowment campaigns, and conducted feasibility studies for a variety of not-for-profit organizations including housing, museums, religious and educational institutions, and a number of national civic and social agencies.

Prior to joining United Way of New York City, Mavis was the Managing Director for Changing Our World, Inc. Prior to that, she served as a consultant for an international fundraising firm. Many organizations have benefited from her development experience, some of which were: National Urban League, Girl Scouts of the USA, East Harlem Tutorial Program, Abyssinian Development Corporation, Phoenix House, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Workshop, United Way of Rockland County, Habitat for Humanity-NYC, and Museum of Bible Art.

Mavis received her Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Spelman College and a Masters of Business Administration from Western Michigan University.
