ADC-ServiceWorks Volunteer positions are now open!

ServiceWorks is a national 3-year initiative to engage low income youths and young adults in meaningful work through civic engagement. It is a win-win that helps young people develop leadership and professional skills that will ultimately increase their employability while giving back to their community. Abyssinian Development Corporation is very excited to serve as a ServiceWorks host site in this important endeavor to help our youth succeed. The following three positions are available:

1. Skills Builder Volunteer: 4-5 hours/week (1-3 hours class prep and 1-2 hours workshop delivery)

Position Description: Teach employability curriculum in 5 class modules to 10-20 Service Scholars, covering subjects such as leadership, networking and project management; conduct supplementary workshops (resume building, applying for financial aid, etc.), and participate in one or more community service projects. Training will be provided.

2. Success Coach Volunteer: 3-4 meetings/month over three-month period.

Position Description: Facilitate one-on-one and collaborative group coaching sessions with assigned Service Scholars focused on completing college and career readiness plan; identify SMART goals and corresponding action plan, and act as accountability partner to help scholars achieve their goals. Must be attentive to the unique needs/concerns of each Scholar, and maintain unconditional positive support. Training will be provided.

3. Community Service Volunteer: 2-4 hours per service activity or project

Position Description: Participate in community projects alongside Service Scholars, their peers and corporate and community volunteers. These may include calendar projects, National Days of Service, as well as projects organized by ServiceWorks program staff, AmeriCorps VISTA members and the Service Scholars themselves. Roles will be assigned during the community events.

Desired Qualifications of Volunteers: Strong interest in working with urban youth and sensitivity to their needs; available during daytime, afternoon or weekend hours for three-month period depending on specific assignment; prior youth/young adult experience preferred. For Skills Builder and Success Coach Volunteers qualifications include a high school diploma, in college or completed Bachelors.
